Mechanical Failure Modelling in Virtual Reality Design Environment

The aim of this research is to investigate an interactive design environment for assessing failure analysis of a process plant. The specific aims of this research are:

• To investigate how virtual components with failure attributes (ie pressure, temperature, stress) can be modelled to allow interactive failure assessment of process equipment.
• To investigate how the failure of process plant equipment due to pipe whip can be assessed within a virtual prototyping environment during design.
• To model the dynamic response of mechanical systems using FEA for use in a VR environment.
